Relationship between Model (Maximum Blank Width) and Box Width And Depth

In all Model 970s, maximum blank width, max box height, max box width, and knife size are interrelated. 

>> Max blank width is fixed with the width of the boxmaker. 

>> Customers may elect to have a longer knife (wider box) at the expense of box depth, or a deeper box at the expense of box width.  

As an example, for a Model 970-102, with 20" knives: 

Max blank size - 102" / 2591mm

Max slot = knife length = 20" / 508mm

Max box width = 40" / 1016mm  (RSC)

Max box depth = 62" / 1575  (102" - 20" - 20")

The following table shows the various combinations available (RSC)

L  = max box length,

W = max box width ( knife length = max slot depth; max box width = 2x max slot depth)

D  = max box depth (or height, or max body score)

So, which model / knife length is best for me? 

Here's how to help determine:

1.  Identify the widest RSC box you plan to make (example: 36"W / 914mm)

     > Select knives at least 1/2 W long (in this case, at least 18" long. Look under the 18" knife column above.)

2.  Identify the deepest box you plan to make, or the box with the longest body score (example: 48" / 1219mm)

     > Compute max blank width (= D+W.)  In this case, 36 + 48 = 84" width blank, so a 970-102 (102" wide) would satisfy these requirements.

Notes:

1.  A Model 970-078 with 18" knives could make a box 36" wide, and with nonstandard 14" knives up to 50" deep.)

2.  The widest FOL would be equal to 1x knife length (RSC = 2x knife length)

3.  Computations above do not include bending allowances
